Dosbarth Saffir

Croeso I Dosbarth Saffir

In Dosbarth Saffir, the class teacher is Mrs Nicola Kathrens. We currently have 31 pupils in our class.  Mrs Donna Thomas covers PPA every other Thursday.

In Dosbarth Saffir we promote kindness and well-being, which supports positive learning. We aim to develop independent, confident individuals who enjoy a challenge.  We aspire to always do our best but are not afraid to make mistakes as we use these mistakes to help move our learning forward.

We strive to develop pupils who have confidence to communicate and are developing the communication skills they will need for the future.  We aim to provide exciting and challenging activities that stimulate curiosity and creativity whilst setting high expectations.

The morning in Dosbarth Saffir starts with ‘Tabletop’ activities where we practise and refine skills already taught, e.g. timetables, reading, grammar or spelling activities, time to reflect on work completed and answer challenge questions or practise our Welsh.

  • Numeracy and Literacy are carried out in the morning sessions. We follow a two-week writing journey which culminates in a final piece of writing in a given genre.
  • Topic work is undertaken in the afternoons alongside Forest School, PE and Thrive.

Pupils reading ORT have a new book every week; books are changed on the designated day.

Pupils reading novels choose a library/reading book that goes home to practice and comes back to school when they have completed the book.  They also have a class reading book to read during class reading time.

Apps we use in Dosbarth Saffir:

  • We use SeeSaw in class to share children’s work. SeeSaw is also used to communicate the children’s reading progress weekly and parents are able to ask any questions they may have through the messenger aspect of SeeSaw.
  • Schoop is currently our whole school messaging service. The app can be downloaded to Android and Apple, allowing you to subscribe to our school channel (11150) Schoop is used to share our weekly newsletters and any important class notices or events.

For our PE sessions this term we will be developing our gymnastic skills. The sessions are every other Thursday afternoon starting 26th September.

Our Forest School day is every other Wednesday afternoon.  Our first session of the Summer Term will be Wednesday 18th September.  Children will need a coat and wellies for the session. A reminder will be sent out before each session.
