Dosbarth Coch

Croeso I Dosbarth Coch

In Dosbarth Coch we have three members of staff: Miss Davies, who leads the Nursery, Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Pugh.  We currently have 30 full-time children in our class.

In the nursery, our aim is to provide a stimulating and inviting environment that the children are eager to explore.  The classroom is a large classroom purpose built for our Nursery class with a fabulous outdoor soft play area which we use daily for playtime and lesson time (activities).

A big focus for us is to help and encourage our children to be as independent as possible.  We aim that the transition from home to school goes as smoothly as possible. Providing them with 'Getting to Know Me' sessions prior to them starting school. We teach children to put their own coats on, to hang them up independently, use cutlery and to become independent with their toileting. All social skills for them to be as independent as possible.  Also, turn-taking and sharing is an important skill for children to learn.

From an early start, OWLS are introduced to children, which are activities throughout the classroom which the children are taught to access as independently as they can. The children have input into the OWL areas during Pupil Voice sessions, providing us with ideas that they would like to do.

In the Nursery, mornings provide the children with Literacy and Numeracy activities and lots of practical experiences, allowing them to learn whilst having fun.  Topic work is undertaken in the afternoons alongside Forest School, PE and Thrive.

Above all, in Dosbarth Coch we want the children to be happy coming to school in the mornings and have lots of fun, whilst broadening their learning and experiences.

We use a variety of apps in our class:

  • Seesaw is used daily, giving an insight into the class to see all the exciting activities your child is experiencing and also giving parents of Nursery children peace of mind by seeing their children settling in as happy individuals.
  • Schoop (ID 11150) is used throughout the school to send messages to parents, including class updates, school closures and a weekly newsletter.
  • Purple Mash is a great app that we use in school. We encourage parents and pupils to use it at home too. Your child will have their own Login details which you will be given.

Our PE day is every other Tuesday afternoon beginning Tuesday 19th September.  Children need to come to school in their PE kits on PE days.

Our Forest School session is every other Monday afternoon beginning Monday 25th September.  Children need a coat and wellies for Forest School.

 Things to Note:

  • Your child will be allocated a reading day. Please bring book bags on that day. School book bags are available to purchase online using your child’s code to use for payment.
  • Any books/new words will be sent home on your child’s reading day and a seesaw message to say how they got on and the next steps you could help with.
  • It is very important that all items of clothing children come to school with are clearly labelled with the child’s name.
  • Children require a labelled water bottle each day and a healthy snack for breaktime in a labelled pot.  We are a healthy school, please only send healthy snacks and plain water.
  • We are a nut free school due to serious allergies, so items containing nuts and Nutella Sandwiches cannot be brought in your child's packed lunch.
  • If you know your child has difficulty going to the toilet or getting to the toilet on time, please ensure that a bag with a clean change of clothes is provided each day.

Our Summer Term Topic is ‘Round and Round the Garden’.

Please see the topic leaflet below to find out more information on how we will be working on this topic throughout our learning.
